Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership, 2012 Games

The Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership for the 2012 games, is a unique combination of private, public and voluntary organisations working together to maximise the opportunities around the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Hosted by CSWP, the Partnership involves the key organisations across the sub-region and has been established to identify, implement and lead on how Coventry & Warwickshire can play its part in making the 2012 games a resounding success and to ensure that our sub-region derives real benefits from the games before, during and long after the event itself.
In line with the symbolism of the five Olympic rings our focus is built on maximising the opportunities around five key areas which include Sport, Culture, Business, Tourism and Health. Coventry and Warwickshire has already benefited from London hosting the 2012 Games, however, there are many opportunities to be gained for our region including:Business contracts - the Olympic Delivery Authority will be letting 75,000 contracts Volunteering - 70,000 volunteers are needed to help make the games a success Culture – playing our part in the four year Cultural Olympiad 2008-2012 Tourism - visitor economy opportunities for the region Celebration - a visit from the 2012 Torch Relay and hosting a 2012 ‘Live Site’ Hosting - training and holding camps for national Olympic or Paralympic committees Profile and image - showcase ourselves to the world, and attract inward investment Encouraging - participation in sport, physical activity and culture Inspiring – the young people of Coventry and Warwickshire
The Partnership is funded by Coventry City Council, Warwickshire County Council, Coventry Primary Care Trust, CV One, University of Warwick and Coventry University and is supported by CSW Sport, Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, Coventry Sports Foundation and Advent Communications.
The decision to award London the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games on July 6, 2005 will always be remembered as a momentous day in the history of British Sport. When London bid to host the 2012 Games, it made a promise to the International Olympic Committee to not only deliver the best games ever and to inspire a generation of young people across the world to choose sport, but to also bring and share the benefits of hosting this prestigious event and once in a lifetime opportunity to the whole of the UK.
